Yaquina: 35 years of service and going strong!

Dredge Yaquina in Columbia near LongviewThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ hopper dredge Yaquina was delivered to the Portland District in 1981. She won’t stop for a party, since there’s too much work to do. Yaquina helps maintain the entrance bars, rivers and harbors on the coasts of Oregon, California and Washington. Because of its size, Yaquina is well-suited for dredging small, shallow coastal entrances. Happy Birthday Yaquina!

The Yaquina’s engine room is manned 24 hours a day by a two-person watch, a licensed engineer and an unlicensed junior engineer. Yaquina’s engine room crew members include (left to right) Vince Kirk, second assistant engineer; Matt Carlsen, junior engineer; Tom Martincello, first assistant engineer; and Matt Harris, junior engineer.
